Heater A/C blows Defrost mode, regardless of switch setting

ROTARYPANELwThere were numerous problems with my F53 truck frame regarding the heater A/C .  I was missing the temperature control knob, and it didn’t seem like the heater was blowing correctly.

One of the aspects of the internet is the ability to search using google, One of the little known search tools is the ability to search and look at images instead of web sites.  This is how I found out about Evans Tempcon.  They are the maker of the various heating and A/C components in the 2001 Mirada.

Looking around on their web site, I found a knob for my heater,  AND,  I also found diagrams and troubleshooting guides for their components.

I searched around on their web site and also found diagrams and troubleshooting guides for their various products.  One example was the Vacuum Logic diagram that gave color codes for the vacuum hoses connected to their control panel.  I was able to use this and quickly found that the I had no vacuum at the control panel.  Tracing the hose thru the firewall  I discovered that the hose was disconnected from a vacuum accumulator that is located high on the firewall.

I reconnected the vacuum hose and BAM.  all the sudden the heater was blowing on the floor or the vents,  whatever I selected on the panel.

  1. Thanks for the valuable info. My sister has a 2000 Mirada and has mentioned an intermittent HVAC control issue, now with the info in your website I have a great starting point if no end point for the repair once its out of storage.
