Adding brush mud flaps

Brush_2_1066x600The brush style mud flaps hopefully will reduce occurrences of crap being kicked up,  specifically being throw against the Civic that we flat tow.  They might also help reduce some of the spray and dust,  but time will tell.

Purchase was under $60, Installation took about 2 hours.

The ones I installed are the 11 inch length,  I’m not sure if I would opt for the 16 inch if I were doing it again.

The brushes come with two aluminum angle bracket slide mounts.

I used a couple pair of vise grips and clamped the angles to the bottom of the bumper so the brushes would be as far forward as I could get them.

I then used a sharpie pen and marked where I needed to cut the aluminum.  I only needed to cut off about 4 inches from each angle.

I didn’t use the screws that came with the brushes, but opted to use some 1/4 inch by 1 inch stainless bolts, washers and nuts.  I drilled 4 holes in each angle and the bottom of the bumper, and used the stainless hardware to mount the aluminum to the bottom of the bumper.

I then slid the brushes into the angles, and marked where I needed to cut them.  I also cut about 1 inch off of each brush where they meet in the center,  This is so they would not hang over the trailer hitch

I cut the brushes about 1/2 shorter than the angles, then after sliding the brushes back into the angles, I drilled a small hole in the end of the angles and used one of the screws.  This will prevent the brushes from sliding out of the angles.
