  1. Thanks for supping some great information. Just purchased a 2001 Allegro Bay motor home with same engine as yours. I think up to 2002 or 2003 the chassis is the same. I am lucky that I can drain transmission with plug and have access to rubber plug for torque converter. Sure is a lot of talk/facts/information about whether you can use full synthetic transmission oil. I need to do this yet. Still think will go with Mobil 1 full synthetic transmission fluid. Again thanks for this web site. Seems any link to FORD for information is no longer available.

    1. I use regular ole dead dinosaur oil.. 5w30 or 10w30. Change the oil and filter every 5k miles.

I use Valvoline ATF Synthetic in the transmission. It took 5 gallons to do the flush.

  2. I like the site and the docs.
Any docs on how to replace headlamp units.
Old ones are frosted so have new ones coming.

    1. 2002 Coachmen Mirada 300qb.
You can buff off old yellowish haze from headlights. Use a 3 inch wool pad on a drill and some light cutting compound. If you clean after then top off with a sealer or spray on clearcoat it will last for years.

  3. Thanks for this great reference for 300QB (I have the Liberty edition — 2004 (with 2003 body)!

Do you know this answer? Does 300QB (2004) have circuits to charge the Engine battery when the convert is on (shoreline or gen) and charging the House battery? If so where? If not, would you recommend something like the TRIK-L-START to maintain Engine starting battery? Thanks.

    1. I’m not sure. On mine, the converter didn’t charge the chassis battery. I added a small relay so it would. A Trik-L-Charge would be a good way to go.

  4. Thank you for this video and for the website.
I recently bought a July 2018 a 2001 Mirada 300QB with 93000, My Uncle owned it and he passed into the next life and my aunt sold it to me cheep. It’s in great physical and mechanical shape.
Your website has been invaluable to me on things to check and fix if needed. I have no Parking brake it pushes to the floor, so I need more research and start checking all brake components before driving off into the wild blue yonder, your pages on changing the fluids and pads is very helpful.
Thanks again for writing about all the things you did to your Mirada. It is a big help to many people I am sure.
May you be blessed with many years to come

  5. Jerry, Thank you.. The parking brake is attached to the rear of the transmission… Climb under there and make sure the cable is moving and still attached..

    There are rebuild kits available..

I have a new motorhome. We sold the Mirada a couple years ago and bought a 1999 Southwind. It has the same Ford F53 chassis so almost everything applies to it. Check it out at http://www.1999Southwind.com

  6. Thank you very much for posting all this great info and keeping it alive since parting company with your Mirada. We just bought a 2002 with 25K miles, and it is our first foray into the RV world, so needless to say I’m learning a lot very quickly, and the lessons are not always pleasant. I am finding all of your write ups to be both informative and immensely helpful. I am a mechanic/technician turned engineer by trade so your style speaks directly to my sensibilities (and budget, for that matter), and I sincerely appreciate this treasure trove of experience and documentation.

    Cheers,
    – Chuck
